What is the best approach? Matchcode or Define Additional selection criteria? I have been looking these options, but am unsure how to proceed?

Looking at the dev time and steps involved with matchcodes, what would need to be done for configuring additional selection criteria:
IMG > Sales and Distribution > Sales > List > Define Selection Criteria
I attempted to add an entry for SAPMV45A to add a new field. I didn't work. What other steps need to be taken in the IMG to add an additional selection option for va02/03/05?
