SAP named it purchasing groups. Means a group can have more than just one buyer.
To assign an authorization profile to a user, perform the following steps:
1. Create a role
2. Choose transactions
3. Create and edit authorizations
4. Assign users, and reconcile the user master (the profile is entered for the users)

Authorization profiles that have been created manually or supplied by SAP can also be used in roles. In this respect, you can create a role without a menu, and include the appropriate profile in the authorization data of the role. For detailed information, see the documentation on transaction PFCG.

THere is a link between SU01 ID and purchasing group but it is via HR. The infotype 0105 subtype 0001 links the Peron in HR ( with purchasing group info) to the SU01 ID.
There is a change document on the purchsing document that shows which ID created the purchasing record. IF the tcode checks on purchasing group then you will only know the group they are in but via HR or the header record which created the document
