Portal connection to R/3

Question: Hi,

I made R/3 connection in EP 6 SP2.
I have followed all the steps in creating the system, Right Click, Edit-> Create System. Entered all the properties, etc. I also created a user ID in SAP and mapped it to a ID in Portals, which is the same as R/3.
Now when i try to connect using System->Support->Sap Application-> Transaction and enter transaction number, I get the user/passwd screen(not sure if I shd get that, since I have already mapped it). I enter the user ID and Passwd and I get a dialog pop-up with some com.appintegrator and asks me to save the file.. Any clue why i dont get to SAP Transaction screen? Do i have to make any changes to portalapp.xml file?
I have installed sapgui on the portal machine and also use SAPGUI for Windows option while running the transaction.
Any advice?

Thanks

Anyone with a clue? I still have not installed Patch 2 for EP6 SP2. Is it necessary to install this for connection to work?

I just get the Dialog pop up where it asks me to save the file as...It does not open the R/3 transaction..I have already installed the SAPGUI for Windows on the portal server/client.

Please get back asap

Can you tell me what properties you entered after system creation

Answer:
Hi,
We are on SAP 46C and EP6.0 SP2. I have not yet installed Patch2, also I am not sure if we have to install any kind of plugin to SAP for it to work.

I am creating a System for Dedicated Connection (I tried both: From Archive and New System).
UIDPWD, Application Host, Alias, Logical System Name(which was created in R/3 and entered the same way in Portal), client(100), Server(3200).

I have created two user ID in Portal (ABC and XYZ) and one user ID in R/3 (TESTUSER). Mapped (one by one for testing), each ID to TESTUSER in R/3, but when I connect, I do get the User/password login screen, which when I enter, I get the Dialog box and asked me save the file as..But it does not open SAPGUI, though I mentioned that in System-Support-Sap Application - Transaction-.
I am entering FQDN as the Application Host.

Please advice on above.
Thanks so much

Answer:
Have you already installed 6.20 ITS for connection to the R/3 system? Until you get to Basis release 6.40, this is required. There is a plug-in available for 4.6c\EP 6.0 that you should download and install, WP-PI 600_46C, which is also required up until Basis release 6.40. Wouldn't hurt to install support package 27 for the j2ee and portal, and sp 17 for the ITS either.

Hi,
thanks for the reply. I am using SAPGUI for Windows, do I still need to install ITS? Will the connection route thru ITS even though I am not using SAPGUI for HTML?
My J2EE patch is at 26. Please advice

thanks

Answer:
From my experience and what I learned in my classes, ITS is a requirement. If you are setting up a system in the portal, there are parameters specifically for the ITS server, so the lack of an ITS server is probably where your error messages are coming from.

Hope this helps,

Rod.

Answer:
hello,

I do not have SSO experience with SAPGui through EP6 (as others in this post I was doing that wit ITS), but once I had exact problem with logging to SAP.

I installed EP6 preview installation from SDN without cryptography. Whatever I did with assigning portal user to R/3 user ITS was allways asking for username/password. When I installed full EP6 with crpto files everthing was OK and SSO was working as supposed.

Hi akolad,

I had this same problem with people who were using SAP GUI with older
versions, patches. When I upgraded the frontend to GUI 640 this was solved. You can try 620 with patch 48 or 640 GUI
