I have an SU53 that's asking for ' ' for the Resp Area field (RESPAREA).
The user has an ORDER (OR) entry already, & I can't assign ' ' since the field entry for K_ORDER RESPAREA is table based.
What's the best way to proceed ?

Make sure the user entered a value for RESPAREA when executing the transaction. I've seen ' ' errors in SU53s if no value for that org level was entered when the transaction was executed.
You should probably also run a trace to see if this is the true error or if the real error occured before you received the ' '. The auth check in this case for RESPAREA is a recursive check that goes up the standard heirarchy until authorization is granted.

Is it asking for only a ' ' or OR' ' or KSPCTL' ' ?
If only the ' ' Then look for an OSS note to fix, if it is the other then the "error" message is a warning and only an enter will override.

If the SU53 asks for a ' ' in ANY other field (generally the cost element) the way arround this is to add a manual authorization to the role, put the appropriate activity, supply the OTHER ' ' and place an asterisk in the RESPAREA. Since SAP evaluates the value set, this will not add any acces to other orders.
