After the upgrade from 3.0 to 4.6 all the excisting roles got some extra characters. From now on the roles begins with RY50000*. Is there a way to undo this?
My idea was to copy all roles to a new name and then recompare them.
Is there a smarter way?

Working as designed and as the upgrader specified, you had one chance at upgrade to NOT have SAP do this, but it is too late. you will now need to copy to a new role and use an appropriate naming convention. also at the copy tile run the upgrade step in SU25 and check with the functional team if they want the repalcement tcodes used.

How to avoid SAP doing that? We are planning to upgrade from 4.0B to 4.7 and I am interested in this.

As I recall it is a setting in the PRGN_CUST or SSM_CUST table that can override this action done by the XPRA program used to convert the roles ( a SE11 search in 4.7 for use of the tables may shed some light. It also may be a setting in the report entry screen itself, not logged on so I cannot verify this....
Since it take the technical 4.0 name and merges it with "search term" it may still require something to make it unique as the "search term" for the roles did not have to be unique.
