Answer:
SAP allows different types of posting based on the menu path, configuration and version of SAP . TO see if SAP even checks for Asset class run a ST01 authorization only trace on ME21N involving an asset and see if the authorzation object is checked. I doubt that it does as you should have encurred the failure if you used the defaults in PFCG for ME21N unless another tcode brought in an object A_B_ANLKL to check.
If the ST01 produces nothing of value you may need to find a user exit to add the check.
