Question:
Hi folks,
what is the difference between the 2 types of usergroups? What causes the usergroup for auth. check in logon data and what is affected by the user group in the groups tab?
The first seem to be important for the s_user_grp object but the second? Only for search?
thx.
Answer:
User group on the LOGON DATA tab in SU01 is used to control access to the user master Record. The other group is for abap query, much easier to control by assigning the query to a role and eliminating the need for query user groups

Answer:
There is yet another kind of user group that seems to be obsolete but is still on the user tab. It is (was) used by global user manager to assign roles. i.e. you could assign roles to user groups then assign multiple user groups to a user.
This was so full of problems that SAP withdrew the product. Interestingly it is still in WAS 6.4. Perhaps its eveloving in a different direction?
