backup users and roles at times of system builds

Question: Hi

we have good number of users and roles in sandbox and dev, when ever the basis team wants to rebuild/refresh sandbox or dev how do we transports all the users and roles in the system so that we can import once refresh happens , in pfcg we have a mass transport to transport roles and user assignment , but when i try to do it i get a time out request also how do we transport the exisitng users ? should we do it at table level, what are the other precautions we need to take when system is rebuilt

thank you

Answer:
You do not.

There is a system copy for user info only which cna be user to store the info in a temp client then recopy back. the other option is to create a report to capture the base info needed to recreate the id and us a Call transacion (BDC) to SU01_NAV to create/change the Id back to normal.

Answer:
thanks john, can you please explain in little detail

Answer:
Hi,Guy

you also can export the user master and re-import it after system copy.

Answer:
you get a timeout on mass transport because you are trying to transport too many roles at one time. If you need to do a mass transport, break it down into a number of smaller transports.

Answer:
thanks, if i do a mass transport in pfcg i am able to transport roles and user assignment (but not actual user master recods) i am loosing the users data? how should we transport users

thanks once again

Answer:
You do not transport user data.

There are too many tables to consider and there is a number range associated with the user master address. If you are one user off all the workflow and system update failures will get redirected to the wrong ID So it is better to write a report to extract the data needed to restore the data using a BDC to feed the data back to SU01_NAV and change the existing user or create the missing users, this will ensure the number range is assigned to the correct user.
