Question:
Hi Securitas,
I would like to know whether it is possible to change DDIC and SAP* passwords if the password has been forgotten without it having any influence on the sys?
Secondly, can i change it in CUA (SU01) or do i have to change the passwords in USR02?
A speedy reply would be appreciated.
thanks,
Lynne
Answer:
should be no problem at all unless you are depending on SAP* or DDIC e.g. scheduled jobs or for RFC connections etc.
I'm pretty sure you can do it through CUA, though not sure about it if SAP* hasn't been created as UMR.

Thanks for the feedback guest.... are there any repercussions???? Do you have any idea where SAP* could be reset then??? At table level or should i log a call with the friendly people at SAP?
Answer:
are there any repercussions???? Only if there is an RFC destination setup in SM59 with the ID and ppassword set to SAP* in the definition, Which it should NOT be.
Do you have any idea where SAP* could be reset then??? You can use CUA if the ID is created in all the target systems and if you have all the clients setup in CUA. If you have configured each client to allow changing password in th client independent of CUA you can do it in the client. Note though SAP* should be drfined in EVERY client defined in table T000.
At table level or should i log a call with the friendly people at SAP?Use tcode SU01 in the client you need to change it in or create the ID with SU01. The "freindly SAP people"( if you mean the ones at Waldorf) will be of little use. If you have forgotten the Password in a client and callot logon tot he client you can copy a record froma client you know and use ABAP to insert it into the target client.
Answer:
Haven't checked in the latest versions but the program RDDIMPDP needs to be sceduled in client 000 under the name DDIC for import of transports. It can be a background (system) user.
There is a table (can't remember the name off the top of my head that has all the SAp name spaces. If you ever modify it (very rare) you have to be the dialog user DDIC. (I haven't seen this since 3.0c but I haven't checked lately and no one has ever cited a need to change this table in the last 7 years of my experience.

There are also OSS notes relating to this import and DDIC friendlship, but when going through the code I have not found any hardcoding for DDIC.
