I have a requirement to display a custom message when there is an authorization problem in FBL3N. We are starting to use authorization groups to limit access to certain accounts. The standard SAP message does not explicitly state that security is the problem. The message gives a list of possiblities, including authorization or the fact that no data satisfies your request.
I found some vague references to having to write a user exit to accomplish this.

Answer:
SAP does allow users to extend message texts. Go to SE61 and add a user specific extension to the message text. (This is the long text that they see when the double click on the message).
