Question:
Hi Guys,
I'm just about to embark on 3.1i to 4.6c upgrade and have done our first 'learning' upgrade.
I've run SU25 and 'converted' my old activity groups and maintained the extra objects (best guess just now until testing happens).
I've then checked the role that was generated in SU25 for each of the old activity groups and these seem fine, although perhaps the menus need some work.
I then allocate users to those roles as an analogue of the old 3.1i situation so that menus are granted also.
Here's the problem, for a user with say three or four of the new roles assigned, there are duplicate menu paths. How to combine them? Do I need a different overall approach?
Any guidance would be appreciated since I need to be ready for testing quite soon.
Sorry if this seems like a dumb question or if it's been asked before, I'm expert at 3.1i authorisations but completely new to 4.6c Roles.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Answer:
THere are some session manager configuration to have SAP sort and Delete duplicates. If you search this site for SSM_CUST you can find the config value or search where-used in SE11 for SSM_CUST
Answer:
We upgraded from 3.1i to 4.7 and decided to junk the existing profiles and start from scratch. The upgrade really gave us the opportunity to review what people had access to and to determine exactly what their role definitions were.
Of course, loads of work there - but at least I'm confident no "funnies" were migrated over. This was particulary important for me as I had recently inherited SAP security from someone else.
It may be worth converting master data roles, such as cost centres (if you use them) if you have a large volume. Had to double check the same authorisations were being used though.

Thanks Guys!
John: Just what I was looking for!
SAPKnat: We need a full review but there's just me in Basis/Security role so I need to deliver 'something' that will work.
Thanks again!
