Answer:
A BDC user is one designed to be used for a BDC session (Batch input session) run in batch. If a rare few places SAP check the type of user before it allows the process to complete, As I recall SM35 is one. Its Password does not expire and it cannot be used interactively.

Communication ID is designed to be used in RFC connection defined in SM59. THe password does not expire and the id cannot be used in dialog processes.

A BDC user ID can be used in SM59 RFC but a Communication ID (CPIC) canot be used in a BDC session.

Answer:
Thanks John,

That answers part of my question. But what is Service ID then?. and what is it used for.

Answer:
You have a BDC and a Service user available in the same system still?

A service user is the same as the user which has the user type B (BDC or System) in USR02-UTYPE (not sure about the field name.. no matter what the documentation in SU01 says), with the exception that it is dialogue capable (i.e. interactive with the GUI). It can be used, for example, for debugging interfaces (SM59) or also for lazy admins so that they donīt have to change their password for their user with SAP_ALL, but all the folks in the warehouse with a scanner in their hand still do have to...

Do not use the Communication (C) user type, but also be carefull with some things as you appear to be on 4.6B. C type is interactive with the GUI and suffers from some excessive checks (i.e. you need to give more auths than you otherwise would have had to) and MANY MANY missing checks (e.g. it can change itīs own password and RFC is only checked the 2nd time it is called).

If you "logon" once as each of these user types compare them you will start getting an idea.

If you change the user type and wait about 2 or 3 months (or maybe just a few minutes), then your basis team will contact you in due course.

Answer:
We dont have any User At BDC user...User Types we have are A (Dialog ), B ( Internal RFC & backgroud processing), C( External RFC ), S (Service ), L ( Reference )...

Now, Is "B" the BDC user, or "S" is?

Answer:
A service user is a dialog id that does not force a password reset and the password does not expire. It was invented to support some interactive web applications that are for browsing. SAP says don't assign a lot of rights to service users.

Some folks (like IXOS) won't allow their tools to be called in by a service user because they don't want license cheating.
