I wish to check the users having audit trace activated through sm19 . is there any way for doing that. I know how to activate the audit log but want to make sure it is activated.

SM19 is the correct place, but beware of switching between the screens. They become averse to change.
Best way is go what you want to test, and run Sm20 to see if it is there. Sellect ALL instances.

You could use the decimal numbering system, or the fingers on your hands even - depending on what you have set. Other numbering systems shoudl generally work as well, even the old ones used to count sheep before going to bed.
They are single entries per filter per profile. If there is a * per client or per *, then the roman numerals may become a bit tedious as all users per * will be logged for those events (usually) so either switch to hexidecimal or get a few colleagues to help lend a hand or two.... depending on how many users you have in the SYSTEM.
