Re-importing composite menu loses translations

Question: Having a bad day...

I'm using composites and the description in the single role appears on the composite menu which is fine. However, I'm trying to find a way of entering a French translation for the single role description directly in the single role.

I can add a French translation in the composite but it obviously loses the translation as soon as you re-import the menu.

I suppose one option is to create a new top level folder called the same as the description but wondered if there's a better way?

I've tried downloading the role and opening as a .csv, copying the line for the description, inserting the line again but with 0001 instead of 0000, F instead of E and then the French translation but can't get it to upload.

It's only the actual description of the single role that's causing the problem.

any help appreciated

David

Answer:
Hi David

have a look at table AGR_TEXTS. I haven't got french loaded but do have the default German and English. if I look at a single role it has The role Description field in as position 0. Any of your comments in the text box at the bottom have numbers from line 1 onwards. Currently there are NO values in this table in language German for this role name. If I then login in in German, the role defaults through the English description. Maintain the role and give it a translated Description, it will save it in the German "DE" part of this table.

Do the people who need this translation ever log on in a language other than French? If not, then you need to maintain this either front-end in French logon mode or directly access the table somehow ...

Answer:
Hi Andy - THANKS!

Tried submitting a response earlier that seems to have dissappeared into the ether...

I logged onto DEV using FR as the default language and couldn't maintain the description as a programme needs running to allow none DE language maintenance.

Did that and then added the French versions in PFCG.

SUCCESS! Re-import using EN logon language retains the FR version.

Thanks again - you're a star

PS if there are 2 replies from me then this one is a duplicate...

Answer:
good news berryd, I'm glad it worked for you.

just out of interest, what was the program that needed running to let you maintain in other languages?

thanks

Hi Andy

See OSS note 854311 which uses Z_ROLE_SET_MASTERLANG.
