CUA: User creation error caused by printers

Question: Hi,

Currently implementing a CUA, linking an EBP, APO, R/3 and BW system. We have a small problem whereby the printers are not maintained in all the various systems. Therefore when a user is created via CUA with a printer allocated, it is not created in any child system where the printer does not exist. I know that I could set print parameters to local maintenance in SCUM. However, this is not ideal because I would like all the administrators to only work via the CUA system.

Does anyone perhaps know of a work around that could be applied, other than creating all printers in all systems or locally maintaining the printer assignments?

Thanks in advance
SM

Answer:
sorry if this is an insulting response, but can you rely on their windows default printer and state "LOCL" on the Defaults Tab of the User Master record in all child systems?

Answer:
No that is not an insulting question, I did consider that option. Unfortunately the client is not happy to allow users to print to any type of printer to ensure that layouts for specific documents are consistent, and therefore users can only print from SAP to printers that have been loaded onto to the SAP system.

Answer:
You will need to define all component system printers on your CUA system. We found no other solution for this. Just create a CATT and create them.

Answer:
The easy way around is to Export the list of printers from the Child System into a Text file, and then import them into SPAD.

I had the same problem and this was a 5 minute fix.

Good Luck.

Answer:
We spend a lot of man hours setting up printers in BW, R/3 and EBP back ends. I have just recently found out about the SPAD export function. Our systems are now out of sych and I have one question which I hope can be answered. If we export the up to date list into one of our other systems, does it automatically overwrite the data held there?

Thanks
