I am working for a company that wants to restrict HR personnel from seeing other HR personnel data. I know about the HR flag, but that only disignates someone as being in HR. This is the first time I have encountered a request like this. Do any of you have any ideas that I can research and test? The second part of this is when they implement ESS/MSS and that same HR person has to do performance reviews and salary calibration, if they are restricted from seeing otehr HR personnel data, how will that impact their ESS/MSS experience? Any thoughts on this would be helpful

I guess I am not sure what you are asking with the way I read the question. What I took away was that you want to restrict HR users from other HR personnel's data. I am not sure what HR flag you are talking about. There are a set or HR authorization objects that can be set up according to a variety of conditions/requirements. There is also structural authorizations that could easily achieve limiting of who views what HR data by determining where each suer resides int he organization but this is specific to the org. management design and how it is set up. The interaction of ESS with HR authorizations can be tricky but almost always there is a way to manage them. MSS is dependent on how MSS access what organizational structure and can be configured to a certain degree. It is hard to figure out what you wish to achieve with my limited understanding of the question.

I'll be more specific. Today the company uses only SAP Core Profiles to restrict who has access to HR data (transaction codes and authorization objects - no structural authorizations at all). They are upgrading from 4.6c to ECC6. They way to restrict HR to see everything for everyone except other HR personnel. Specifically, the do not want HR personnel viewing certain fields in IT08 and they don't want them to view IT25. But how can we do that AND allow the HR personnel to view everyone else?
The second part is, if the above is in place and I am an HR personnel manager and I am restricted from viewing other HR personnel data in IT25 and IT08, wouldn't that also restrict me in MSS when doing salary reviews? If so, what are your thoughts on working that out?

if the HR personnel are in a different employee group or employee subgroup you can exclude them for the specific IT.
