Authentication and Single sign on

Question: HI,

We would like to implement Single sign on in our SAP environment. We use Novell Operating system at our company. Whenever we log into computer, we enter Novell ID and password. We want to use this authentication and be able to log into SAP directly (without entering SAP ID and password). Also we will be developing applications in SAP using BSP technology. There too, users should be able to run applications without logging again. We would like to know if it is possible to implement the above scenario and the effort (in terms of hours) involved. Our SAP servers run on Windows Operating system. We don't have any other SAP components like Enterprise Portal, CRM or SRM, however, we are planning to use SAP XI in future. We are on mySAPERP 2004 version with WAS 6.40.

Answer:
Then you should talk to Novell and find out how they will pass you to R/3 after authentication. At least with the Portal, you can point it to the right app server no matter where you authenticate the user id like AD. On the R/3 side you need to look at the parameter settings and configure them so that R/3 knows that you are not using the GUI for authentication. Look at all the ones with *SSO* for single sign on. At any rate, Novell should have some documentation as they have advertised their product as a single sing on for SAP.
