ESS Personal Details/SSN Issue

Question: When a user logs onto ESS and chooses Personal Details and tried to change ANY field in that option, then review and save, the update on the PA record in R/3 deletes the SSN number. We were told this was standard SAP. Is this true? Has anyone else ran into this problem? DOes anyone have any suggestions on how to overcome this?

BTW: I suggest to post this question in the HR forum. It's not really a Portal or internet related issue. Although ESS is Portal based, most of the functionality in R/3 HR.
