Question:
Hello,
Can someone please tell me what the difference between SMX and SM37 is. Also what is the recommendation on which tcode to assign to users.
Thanks,
Answer:
Not much other than SMX only shows your jobs unless you press the :job overview" button but you need SM37 access to perform that.
Answer:
Thanks for the input John,
I need little more clarification and thought you might be able to help.
So, SMX is just to view your own jobs, does that mean you can output and see the content of your job.
Say the user does have access to SM37 does that mean they have the capability to view everyones job and the content within in it.
Is SMX and SM37 just to view jobs and their data or is there any other action that you can perform. We are looking at changing the access for all our user from SMX to SM37 and just want to make sure that we have everything covered.
Thanks

I don' understand if SMX and SM37 are similar then why is there a need for SMX at all. What can you do via SMX, don't you need SM37 eventually to read the necessary output and to print it? I thought that all SMX does is shows the status of your own Job.
Is it bad to give SM37 access to all users just to display logs, output and print the output.
Any input is appreciated
Thanks
Answer:
Hello,
I thought that SM37 was required when you click on Job Overview. We are on 40B system and our users are able to click on job overview without having access to SM37. Any thought would be appricated.
Even if they were able to go there since the user will need access to S_BTCH_USER if they want to view other users jobs or look at the log correct.
Thanks
Answer:
SMX is to show your own job. So this you can give to any one or group them in one role as common role.
SM37 is a transaction which will allow you to see other jobs then your own. You can still restrict the kind of access by manipulating the object value in it.
Whether this two can be assigned to user? The answer is yes. But normally SM37 will be differentiate into several category. Which mean there are user who can view only other people job, the are people that should have access to re-run the jobs incase it failed, and so on..
