Question:
Hi folks,
I'm trying to resolve an issue I have with Early Lot Creation. I can successfully create the 'Early' post production lot when I release the Process Order, but when I make my Goods Receipt, I get a second Post Production inspection lot. I really only need the first one.
Any one have any ideas?
Russell

Answer:
change you settings in material master, inspection type, "Lot for MatDocItem" indicator.

Answer:
Hi Daniel,
Thanks for the response, but I'm not sure I understand which indicator you are refering to. On the Inspection Setup data for Inspection type 04 I have selected Y - Early Lot Creation in the Control Inspection Lot field.
Not sure if this is the indicator you mean or something else?
thanks
Russell

i am in 4.0b here... check for a field with these entries in the inpection type 04 material master set up:
' ':an insp. lot per document item
X :an insp. lot per purch. order item, or order item and batch
1 :an insp lot per material document, material and batch
2 :an insp. lot per material and batch

Hi,
I am sure your making GR with a new batch numenr than the one in early GR.. That is why an additional lot...
If you make the GR for same batch as that in early GR, you should not have this probelm..
Referring to what Daniel is saying, you cannot have both....The early GR lot indicator is the same, where you select "lot for mot doc" etc...
Let me know

Answer:
Hi Guys,
Yes, I'm making the receipt of the same batch into the same SLOC, and getting the second lot created.
Unless I'm missing something fundamental here I'm going to raise an OSS note. I've never had to implement this functianality with clients before but I do believe that I should only be getting 1 lot with the settings I have made.
Thanks for the help,
Russell

hi Russell,
this is strange... did you mantain "Lot for MatDocItem" indicator as "2" (an insp. lot per material and batch)? what is your current version/hot package? did you check for OSS notes already?
dp
Answer:
Hi Daniel,
I suspect that the issue is something to to with the SLOC that I'm receiving the material into and the HU indicator on the Inspection Type.
I normally receive the material into a Handling Unit Managed SLOC, so I have the Insp for HU indicator set in the material master. However, when I receive it into a non HUM SLOC, I get both the early lot and the GR lot, however I would not have expected to get the GR lot due to the Insp for HU Indicator being active. This setting should only create a lot when I pack the material onto HUM's, not make the GR.
The interface between QM and HUM is really frustrating at times, hopefully now that my client will soon upgrade all systems on the landscape to the SAPKB46C44 support pack things should settle down with HUM.
Cheers,

just found these 3 notes:
397029 Early GR lot: Packing after UD
369867 No update of preferred GR inspection lots with HUM
539516 Inspection lot summary and HU stock category
the last one seems to be pointing towards what you describe as the issue is all about using HUM. let us know how it goes. good luck.

Answer:
I would look at the "receiving storage location" specified in the order vs the receiving storage location used in the actual GR. If they are different I could see a new inspection lot being generated.
On the other hand, the handling units and QM is a pretty new area and there are some OSS notes out there on problems as Daniel has shown. So it wouldn't surprise me if there was a bug in there somewhere too.

Answer:
I'm facing the same issue as the one that was first generally outlined:
- early lot was created okay when the production order was released.
- the first few GR was correctly captured to this early lot.
- however, subsequent GR for the same production order triggered new inspection lots to be created.
Is there anything that might have caused the second lot to be created? The receiving SLOC is the same in the production order and GR doc. Our system is not setup for handling unit materials.

Answer:
Hi Naphat,
Your observation is strange. Was the first lot Rejected? If the first one is accept and if the subsequent GR from the same order is done with the same batch and to the same storage location, it should not create a new lot. I would assume it is a system problem.
Could you confirm what was the UD valuation?

I don't know if I can help! And I'm not sure how your data is set up!
I'm using SAP 4.6c with OSS pack 39. The settings that I have in the material master for semi-finished goods and finished goods for inspetion type 04 are inspect with a task list, automatic assignment, inspect by characteristics, automatic UD, and early lot creation for an order item. Since I'm not using "post to q-stock" I currently don't have the problem mentioned, but when I use "post to q-stock" in the material master, when the first goods reciept is completed, and qm releases the material in the lot, the next goods receipt creates a new inspection lot.
For inspection type 04, the early creation of the lot works. But when the first goods receipt is completed and qm releases the entire quantity in the lot, the next goods receipt creates a new inspection lot. This is not an ideal situation but all the same data still applies; for instance, batch, production order, and etc. the problem is I will have multiple inspection lots for one batch with multiple result recording. In order to avoid the multiple lots, we leave a quantity in the inspection lot.
