Question:
Hi PP experts,
The material is a variant configurable material. Base unit in PC and production it in M, Sales unit is in PC. The conversion from PC to M is dynamic based on the configuration values defined in the sales order. In the material master we can maintain only one value for unit of conversion from PC to M which is not dynamic.
Is it possible to change the production order quantity in M dynamically based on the configuration values defined in the sales order, i.e If the saels order qty = 1000 PC if the conversion is 1 PC = 5 M (based on the configuration). The production order qty should be 5000 M. So the production order qty should change dynamically in M based on the configuration.
Any help is highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
MS
Answer:
Hi MS,
We don't do this ourselves but we did look at something similar. When you set up the BOM, each item has an item category group. There is an option here for category R variable sized item which you may be able to adapt for your purpose. I don't know how it would link with variant config but it may just help...

Answer:
not sure i fully understand about the Ms, but from what i do,
you can use a reference charactersitic that points to whatever
field the production order qty is stored in.
compute whatever value you want the Ms to be in config, then
set the reference cstic's value to that.

Answer:
Hi Doceddi,
I tried with the reference characteristic CAUFVD-GAMNG and also with CAUFVDGET-GAMNG. But the value is not updating in production order qty.
Do u have any idea about which reference characteristic we have to use.
Thanks in avance,

MS
Answer:
hi MS,
i don't recall off the top of my head how you find out
which table/structure-field a certain screen field
corresponds to, but i know there is a way.
Surely you have a basis or PP freak available to ask this sort
of thing of?
as i said, i don't flly understand what you are trying to do;
but would setting the BOM item qty work for you?
i know that one is STPO-MENGE.
Did you use MDATA in your procedure?
good luck,

Hello MS!
If you manage your material in batches you may use dependencies for dynamic calculation of alternative units of measure. Maybe this hint will help you.

Answer:
Hi Alexy,
The material is managed in batches. But how we can update the production order qty dynamically for alternative unit of measure.
Can u please through some more light on this.
Regards,
MS
Answer:
Hello, MS.
This is for version 4.6
1. You have to activate batch-specific unit of measure (UoM) under IMG customizing for Logistics General:
Logistics-Gen -- Batch Mgt -- Batch specific UoM -- Activate Batch specific UoM
2. To define batch-specific UoM
Logistics-Gen -- Batch Mgt -- Batch specific UoM -- Edit Batch specific UoM
3. To define possibility of calculation of proportion qty
Logistics-Gen -- Batch Mgt -- Batch specific UoM -- Calculate Proportional factors -- Define calculation of Production qty from Base Qty
4. Then, you have to create numeric characteristic that contain calculation factor and object dependency that calculate this factor. You have to assign characteristic to the class of type 023. Then, classify your material with this class.
5. In the Material Mastergo to the Additional Data view and then to the "Proportion/Product Unit" tab. Set "Unit Meas. use" field to "B" (Production unit). You will see your characteristic that contains calculation factor. Specify your alternate UoM here.
Try to do this. Refer to SAP Library, Batch Management section for more info.

Answer:
Hi Alexy,
Thanks for ur solution. Can we use this functionality (Batch specific unit of measure) if the same batch has different value of unit of conversion. For example, if the batch no. (say 0302) is used in two production orders and in one production order conversion 1 PNL (production unit) = 12 BD (base unit) and in second production order conversion 1 PNL = 30 BD. But both orders use the same batch (0302). The material is configurable and batch managed. Version 4.6B
Can u please help in this.
Thanks in advance,

Answer:
Hello, MS
I think No, because in this scheme conversion factor is "fixed" on the batch level. But in any case you may try... Tell me the result if you do.

Alexey
Answer:
Hi Alexy,
I tried with Batch specific unit of measure with all the settings mentioned by you. The details are :
In the material master I gave production unit PNL and base unit BD. The conversion I gave 1 PNL = 1 BD. I used the batch specific unit of measure settings. In the material master (MM02) additional data- proportion/production unit I gave planned value 1 PNL for the batch characteristic. (No. of boards/Panel) i.e 1 PNL = 1 BD.
I created a batch say RED6 and given the value 12 PNL for the characteristic. (12 BD)i.e 1 PNL =
I created production order and entered the batch (RED6) under goods receipt tab in the production order. In the production order I can see the production order total qty : 1200 PNL, Base qty : 1200 BD.
It suppose to show production order qty : 100 PNL and base qty : 1200 BD. The reason is I gave 1 PNL = 12 BD in the batch RED6 which is assigned to the production order. But it is not updating in the order as per the batch value.
Can you Please clarify it. Is there any other solution ??
Thanks in advance.

MS
Answer:
Hi,
I think that your problem is a wrong BOM you need add other label to yours BOMs.
You need more final products.
Good look.
