Variant configuration and Batch Management

Question: Dear All
I have some problems related to Batch Management & Variant Config.

I have a configurable material M-1 managed in Batches. The same material M-1 is also variant material.
Strategy used 25+40

1.During GR of Production order it should copy the values similar variant characteristics to the batch charateristics. Is there std functionality or user exit to do so.

2.Suppose my Production order qty is 10, I want to generate 10 batches at order release , is it possible or not any user exit.

3. During entry of PIR, Characteristics like length, vaues cannot feed in

Is there any solution of above problem, please help me out
thanks in advance

Answer:
sorry, I do not have much idea about this. Just wondering, is there any way you can help me to understand more about variant configuration; by giving a simple illustration?

Thanks

Answer:
Use MD81 transaction to create PIR with Charachteristics.

I am also facing the same problem of copying the variant characteristics to batch charchteristics since we can view the batch characteristics in MMBE but not able to view the Variants .

Also Raw material Batch characteristics also not able to copy to semi finish charachteristics .

Pls see my query also which i have put with heading as Vaiant config / batch charachteristics / ware house management .

I am working for a Cold rolling mill for Steel bars

If you have any idea pls send me your email Id so that we can share our views.

Answer:
First thing...
It is wrong expectation to get the same Characteristics that is entered in Variant Characteric Values into Batch Characteristics..

Because Batch Characteristics Values are ACTUALS
But Vairant Characteristic values are EXPECTED or can be called as SPECIFICATIONs.

Second...
If creation of batch is at receiving end, you can do it any number of times from MB31. If you are receiving material while operation confirmation, you have to do Batch split. This also can be done any number of times.

Third...

Yes you can do as Kiran Accent has said. But it is not advisable for Characteristics which do not represent any components. Say.. Colour of paint is Characteristic, this would represent buying a component "X-Colour paint". Ultimate aim of doing this exercise (PIR) is to again do the planning of Components for the PIR materials..

APART from this USER EXITS are always there in anything.

Hi,
We had the same problem in our implementation for a steel industry. There is a user exit to copy variant characteristic values into the batch when you create a production order.

I do not have the details of it now. I will convey you once i get it.

Answer:
Hello Dhasarathy ,

I dont think MD81 can not be use as pir with Char .

I have use MD81 several time and get proper results after MRP . Use of MD81 is in the Business Scenario where client is having excess raw stock and he want to utilise his capacity without any sales order based on sales forecasting . So it is required to do pplanning through MD81 to carry out production planning and capacity levelling

Can you throw some more light on User exits which can be used for copying the Variant char to batch char . It is required since always when we veiw the inventory through mmbe or any other transaction we are only able to see the Bathc chat and not the Variant char . for variant char we have to go through MD04 or sales order one by one which is very time consuming and also one page single report with all the values is not available .

Can any one has done any development in abap report for Inventory stock with char value - either batch ot variant. Because In steel Industry all char is important whithout which neither sales , production or procurement can move ahead .

Kiran Accent.

Answer:
Dear All thanks a lot for your input
I have tried MD81 ( CIRs) but it is not serving my purpose because of following problems:
1. When i Make GR of finished Goods, it goes to Sales stock but I want in unrestricted Stock.
2. I transfer this material to Unresricted Stock, CIR opens again and genrates Production Order in Planning Run, so how to close CIR.

For transferring Variant characteristics from Sales order to Prodcution Order User Exit is MBCFC004

I tries to deal this problem through Stock transport Order it is working fine, but not copying the variant characeritics into planned order

HI,
Can any one please tell me that while creating charcteristic I have to maintain the table name sdcom and field name vcond .what is the actual purpose of that?
Thanks

Answer:
I would suggest Zreports for getting VC characteristics and batch characteristics for any stock if needed. This is not readily available in SAP.

To get a report in ABAP, for the stocks with VC config and Batch Config, use the following :

Function Module: VC_I_GET_CONFIGURATION
Connecting Field : CUOBJ

It can be from Production Order (Aufk or AFKO table with CUOBJ) etc..
This is fair idea.

I would say that please do not ask for the programs created by other. Ideas can be provided. It would definitely hurt others. Also, people can show their own creativity by using these ideas into different applications and programs..

I hope using the Function Module, you can create report effectively with whatever characteristic you want.

for SDCOM-VKOND.. please search this forum for "Reference Characteristics" in SD Module. You can find the solution.

Dear All
Please suggest how to deal MTS scenario for config. mat ( I can not defince the material variant because variant characteristics are always variable)

I tried through Cust Indp. requirement (MD81) but has the problem in the process flow. Suppose i go through this so during GR og Production Order it assign my stock to CIR and if reassign to unrestricted stock my CIR become open and in next mrp it would create the planned order.

Is there any solution to this problem
