Question:
Thank you tanuj and craig for my previous query.
Can an equipment be sent outside for calibration... or should it be configured as a material with serial number... kindly explain to me the process. my client wants the eqp to be sent outside for the calibration by certified authority .... how do i configure this... if i can make it as a material with serial number.. the master data would be a problem, not to mention practical problems.
Thanks in anticipation
Krith

Answer:
Hi,
You can send your equipment for inspection elsewhere. This is only one suggestion and I'm sure that people with more experience on PM can give better hepl.
The subject is far too big to be depicted in detail here, but here are some main points:
- create the equipment master
- create (equipment) task list
- if you input the inspection data from external source - think BADI, batch input etc. technical issues with ABAPers
- create maintenance order
- any other necessary data, such as strategy
- service as an item to be ordered
- create the service orders as vendors (so you can buy the inspection)
- remember FICO data
Hope this helps,
Pia

The integration between QM & PM actually works quite well. If your client doesn't need to record the calibration value in the SAP, the whole function will be only in PM. No need for material & serial number. The equipment master is enought for this case. The step are..
1. Create PM order and assign the EQM.
2. At the operation tab, select relevant control key for external service.
3. Key in the purchasing innformation ex. price, job detail, vendor,..etc.
4. The system will create the PR linked with the PM order. Then, follow your procurement system.
5. Confirm PM order when the work finish. Complete the PM order.
>> Need a lot of configuration in PM though.
If you want to record the calibartion data in the equipment, the PM order must be configured as "inspection order". You must assign inspection characteristics in the tab "operation" of the PM order. The system will create inspection lot after you release the PM order.
Hope this help...
