Question:
Hello,
We're just starting our PM project. Our users currently schedule preventive mantenance using Outlook. What they do is set up, for example, every 3rd Thursday of the month do PM on this machine. On the 2nd Tuesday do PM on that machine. And So On.
I have not been able to find a place to put in a planning calendar anywhere in PM. We use planning calendars all over the place in MM and PP. I would have figured that we could use them in PM, as they are exactly what our users want.
Did I miss something?
Thanks,
Russell
Answer:
You can create Maintenance plans - single cyle or strategy based. In the scheduling parameters tab if you want to use factory calendar then select scheduling by calendar in the scheduling indicator. Or else for scheduling by key date if u want to schedule on a particular dtae.Hope this suffices.
Answer:
Thanks, but I'm not talking about a factory calendar, but a planning calendar. And a Key Date won't work, because there isn't 28 days in each month. If I say the first monday of this month, that might be the first wednesday of next month.
Need more ideas...
Russell
Answer:
I have configured this same scenario for a couple of clients now, and as SGI correctly points out, it can be achieved by using Factory Calendars.
I'm pretty sure that the "planning calendars" in MM and PP are Factory Calendars.

Answer:
Mr. PeteA,
Factory calendars, and planning calendars, are two mutually exclusive objects in SAP. Factory calendars are all about setting up which are working days, and which are not. That is so MRP and CRP will not schedule work on a vacation day.
A planning calendar (MD25, MD26, and MD27) allow you to do exactly what I am asking, which is to schedule things on a regular basis, i.e, every other Wednesday, or whatever. Please check this out.
I'm surprised that a 14 year consultant isn't aware of the difference.
Again, my question stands, has anybody had the issue that they do the PM on a specific piece of equipment the first monday of the month?
Thanks,
Russell
Answer:
Russell, I am not aware of any way to achieve this.
Many maintenace plan call objects are not executed on the planned date, many of the dates are modified to suit the priorities at the time. So you could try setting up the task list with a maonthly cycle and actualy execute the work on the first Monday.
By the way, I have been involved in Maintenance Planning for over 10 years now and I have never experienced a scenario like this one. Can you please explain why the work must be done on a particular day?

Answer:
hello all,
and what about a keydate plan, combined with some functionality in customer exit IPRM0002? I didn't check, but this seems rather straightforward for me.
Didier
Answer:
Hi all,
This is interesting discussion. We had similar requirement in our current ongoing project.
We have used Scheduling Indicator as Time and used the exit IPRM0002 to change the system proposed planned date to a new date which follows the pattern required.
We created a sort field to identify the plans for which this logic should apply. Based on the day of the week on which the plan is started and day's position in that month's calendar, the next plan dates are identified. However the program for obtaining the date of every 2nd Monday...3rd Thursday...etc..of a month is tricky and quite a brainteaser.

Russell Goltz,
Thanks for the info regarding Planning Calendars, you learn something new with SAP every day (especially about another module!!!!). We are trying to help each other here, and making sacastic comments does not help.
Do you have a fixed set of monthly maintenance cycles, or can maintenance occur on any day of the month?
You can acheive what you want using Factory Calendars (FCs) however, if if the cycles can occur on any day of the month you may require a large number of FCs which is impractical.
Alternatively, (as DIDER suggests), you could investigate user-exit IPRM0002 (Determine planned date info for maintenance plan) which should get you what you want

Answer:
Hi
Simplest way is use Time-Key date with weekly strategy 1W, 4w, 12W, 36W, 52W...
Create maintenance plan with start cycle on date which falls on tuesday.
Isn't it taking care your requirement???
Answer:
as far as I know, the last suggestion doesn't work. Keydate only works with monthly an yearly plans
Didier
Answer:
Hi Didier
Try following combination to achieve the requirement.
Weekly strategy with Time-Key Date scheduling indicator, without shift factor and tolernace limits, non-hierachy and following maitenance package
1WEEK 1W 1
5WEEK 4W 1
10WEEK 2M 1
15WEEK 3M 1
30WEEK 6M 1
60WEEK 1Y 1
Schedule main plan with start date ( if it is every month 2nd monday), then start date should be accordingly.
Give your feedback
cheers

Answer:
Thank you all very much for these suggestions. I want to apologize for my previous sarcastic remarks. They were totally inappropriate. I really know nothing about plant maintenance. My users were using Outlook to plan their preventive maintenance, and I incorrectly assumed that would be a common way to plan PM. I've learned otherwise, and am very so sorry. This note is being written specifically to PeteA, sorry buddy!

Answer:
No worries Russel, I understand your frustrations. It can be quite difficult to resolve issues via this type of message board - usually due to misunderstanding between posters (and I'm as guilty as everyone else)
The [/b]planned maintenance[/b] element of the PM module is different to all other maintenance systems I,ve seen over 25 years or so. Having said that, it can usually do what you want it to do. Sometimes that means a change of business process (and mindset)
Did you manage to get your probelm solved?
