Question:
Hi:
I am researching EVA in 46C for an upgrade from 40B and have a few questions on the process
The current methods used in 40B are:
Time prop. (000...005) for PLAN and
Work (000..006) for ACTUALS
My questions are:
1) Why does the system in 46C not allow method WORK (000..006) for ACTUALS on WBS elements, orders other than networks, and for the order types. It used to allow it (at least for WBS elements, I know) in 40B
2) Do I really have to create cost elements of category 61 for EACH of the cost element categories we have (labor, material, overheads, etc). I assume these cost elements are secondary celems (since celem categ is 61). Would appreciate if somebody can please confirm this.
3) Do I need 3 new value categories for the 3 types of EVA stat key figures I have created (non-aggreg, aggreg, & reaults Analysis)
4) What columns do I need to report in the CN(S)E5 report after I have transferred values using CNE1 (or CNE2). There seem to be too many fields - some of them - BWCS, BWCP, aggregate, some non aggregate, some adjusted , some non-adjusted etc etc
Anyway, as a test I created sec. cost elems, one for each celem group we have. I assigned these EVA celem's to the cost elem groups in the IMG. I also created 3 value categories, and assigned the EVA SKF's to these value categ's.
I then ran the program CHECKREPORT_PROGRESSANALYSIS.
Every step shows green except one...
COST ELEMENT ASSIGNMENT
The error msg says
" Define a cost element as the standard cost element "
Under the help for the IMG step (MAINTAIN ASSIGNMENT OF COST ELEM GROUP), the system indicates that we need to identofy a "DEFAULT" cost element. This is not clear at all. Does anyone know what this means ?? I have a one-to-one EVA cost element to the existing cost element groups. How can I have only one of them as a default cost element ?
Anyway, if anyone has successfully ran the new EVA process, I would appreciate if you can let me know what the next steps are. Here is what I could gather from hours of reading and research
CJEN - reconstruct project DB
CNE1 - transfer POC/parameter values
CN(S)E5 - EVA report assuming you have "correctly" identified what fields you want to see in the columns of the report - and like I said earlier, there are too many of them
Would appreciate the help
Thanks a million
Answer:
In my earlier note
on question 2)
2) Do I really have to create cost elements of category 61 for EACH of the cost element categories <-------
sorry, this should be cost element groups and not cost element categories
Thanks

Folks
I was able to clear out the cost element error. I was missing some config that was not transported.
Anyway, after running the program again, I got the foll error:
" Assign cost element XXX to a value category" where XXX is the category 61 sec. cost element I created for EVA. I have about 10 of them, and so I got 10 errors
My question:
I had already created 3 new value categories for the SKF's - aggregated, non aggregated, and results analysis. This is in addition to the value categories already existing for labor, material, ovhd etc which are used in the PS hierarchy reports. Do I have to create NEW value categories for these EVA cost elements ??? I'm guessing I should not assign these EVA cost elements to the existing value categories, because this may screw up the hierarchical reporting
Question 2:
-------------
I ran CNE1 in 46C for an existing project in to calculate the POC and earned value. The system came back with a results screen indicating that it had used the SAP 0-100 method to calculate the POC etc. Now, although each object in the project (WBS, ntwk activity etc) does not explicitly have a plan and actual measurement method assigned to it (on the PROGRESS tab of the object), in the IMG I have associated the default measurement methods (plan & Actual) for each object type
Why is the system still bypassing these methods and using the SAP 0-100 method ? Please don't tell me that I have to explicitly maintain the methods in the master data of the objects. That's going to be a real pain
Question 3:
------------
On running CNSE5 for the project, and bringing in the fields (aggr plan POC, adj aggr actual POC, BWCS, BWCP, cost variance, date variance etc) in the report, ALL columns except plan and actual costs (OF COURSE !!!) show zero values. What is going on ??
Are there any EVA gurus out there ????
Would appreciate the help
Thanks

If the system finds that no measurement method has been prescibed , it adopts the method SAP 0-100. Check / correct your settings

Check whether you have annual values in addition to overall values for your project.
In customizing " settings for progress analysis" , maintain cost plan (active project ,annual values)

Hi YN1603
In reply to my Question 3, you mentioned the following:
Check whether you have annual values in addition to overall values for your project.
In customizing " settings for progress analysis" , maintain cost plan (active project ,annual values)
YN1603
-------------------
There are 2 areas in the progress version where this setting can be made:
1) EV BASIS and
2) POC WEIGHTING
Do I make the change to "Cost plan(active project, annual values" for both of them or just one, and which one ??
Also, I did not understand when you say "Check whether you have annual values IN ADDITION TO overall values for your project"
In the IMG setting for progress version, you can do overall values OR annual values, but not both
Would appreciate a reply
Thanks a lot
Answer:
EVC basis : cost plan(active project,annual values)
POC weighing : weight(active project)

Dear YN1603:
Thanks for your reply and patience.
I tried out the settings you mentioned and the numbers started appearing !!! I am trying to make sense out of them.
Had a question:
If I want to use more than one measurement method for projects, do I have to create another progress version, and all that goes with it (SKF's, celems, value categ's etc).
e.g - for project A, I want to use time proportionality
for project B, I want to use Milestones
for project C, I want to use Degree of completion etc
I am assuming I DO NOT have to create more progress versions, but I just wanted to check.
Thanks a lot
Answer:
No need to use more than one CO version.
The measurement methods assigned in the project objects take precedence over default measurement methods set up in configuration.
