Question:
In one maintenance order, I have the following data:
field----------------------------work centerw--------linked cost ctr frm wk ctr
person responsb,MnwkCtr----work center W1--------cost center C1
Operation, WkCtr--------------work center W2--------cost center C2
When I try to release the PM order, system popup a message says"cost center C3 does not exist"
My question is: from where this cost center C3 is determined?
Thanks in advance!
Answer:
psk123,
From memory.....
As standard the Cost Centre (CC) defaulted in the PM/CS Order is derived from the costing information in the Main Work Centre (MWC) assigned to the order header.
This would indication that the MWC has a CC C3 which is not valid
There is also a user-exit (IWO10025) to determine the CC according to customer defined rules.

Answer:
Your message is rather jumbled so if I'm misunderstanding, I apologize. But if you are receiving the error when trying to release the order, it may not be related to your work centers at all, but rather your settlement cost center may be invalid.

Answer:
pdwci,
Thanks for your reply. You are correct; the cost center is derived from the settlement rule. When I call up "settlement rule", system says "settlement rule does not yet exist for the order", and provide me options: maintain settlement rule 1, with default and 2, without default.
Option 1 brings me to the same error message: cost center
C3 does not exist.
Question again: where can I find the default settlement rule? And why it is looking for cost center C3?
Thanks again!
Answer:
psk123,
The default Settlement Rule is derived from the Settlement Profile which is assigned to your Order Type in the IMG
Your default Settlement Rule will be the cost centre

Answer:
P.S. - the cost center used in the settlement rule is derived from the cost center assigned to the technical object (equipment, functional location) in the order. You must have CC3 assigned to your equipment/floc.

Answer:
Hi PJA and pwdci,
I checked the IMG, default settlement rule says default object type CTR (cost center). I guess it is why the system is looking for a cost center to settle.
The cost center to settle the PM order should be derived from either equipment or fun loc.
1. In my case, for equipment in the PM order header (find in reference object section), I found cost center in organisation tab, account assignment section.
2. For functional location in the PM order header (find in reference object section), I found the same cost center in the same place as equipment.
Question again: cost center found in 1 and 2 is not C3. Where is the C3 determined?
P.S. The functional location in 2 has up-level functional location.
Thanks again for your help.
Answer:
psk123,
See my first post..
The options are
1. CC derived from Main Work Centre
2. CC Derived from user-exit
3. CC manually assigned (check action/change logs)

Answer:
Hi PJA and pdwci,
Thanks for your help. I spend some time on our system. I need to check with you the following finding: Is it standard?
It looks like in our system, the settlement cost center for a PM order is derived from PM order
location tab, account assignemnt section, cost center field.
According to your experience, do you think this is standard setting? Looks like from Pete, it should be from Main work center (the related cost center), and from Paul, it should be from cost center assigned to the equipment?
Looking forward for your confirmation.
Answer:
Hi psk123,
Default settlement rule is created with receiver as the Cost Center of the Equipment (Reference Object).
Maintenance Order - Location Tab - Location Data and Account assignemnt data is also defaulted from the Reference Object Master Data.

Answer:
Hi Uday, PJA and pdwci,
Thanks for your help. I think the following points can be concluded with you kind assistant (I also tested in the system. Condition: no user-exit and manual change):
1. Equipment master in PM order reference object section is where the system is looking for a settlement cost center (if in IMG, settlement profile says settle to a cost center).
2. The cost center is found under equipment master, organisation tab, account assignment section. It is then defaulted in PM order location tab, account assignment section.
3. As for cost center defined in Main work center (the cost view) of the PM order, it is not used for settlement (Pete, correct me if I am wrong).
Hope this will clarify other people's confusion.
Answer:
psk123, I agree with your conclusions.

The MWC can assign the CC to the order header, this is only used as a default if the Settlement Profile is set to CC also. Otherwise it is not used.
The benefit of having a different CC abd Settlement Rule Cost Object is so that you can report the different objects.
