Currently I am working on SAP version 4.6C.
I am facing one Variant configuration related problem in procurement.
I have created following data in SAP:
a) Create materials
b) Create Super BOM for appropriate materials
C) Create & assignCharacteristics, Classes, configurable profiles and dependancies.
I have properly assigned all the characteristics to respective classes and classes to respective configurable profile and maintained dependancies in super BOM.
Please note that, I am using multi-level variant configuration. When I explode the super BOM in sales order, I can select multi-level configuration. When I save the sales order, I can see all the selected characteristics at all levels. This sales order is creating a purchase requisition in background. When I check this purchase requisition, only first level configuration is appearing and other down level configuration is not appearing.
Now my question is, In SAP-Purchasing sub-module, Can I procure multi-level configurable material? If yes, can I explode super BOM(Bill of material) of configurable material in PO and select the correct multi-level configuration in PO?

Answer:
If this is intercompany, then yes, it is possible, but requires extensive customizations. However, you do not need to go to the purchase order, because the configuration object on the sales order would be sufficient for internal processing (the sales order is visible on the PO).
If you are procuring the parts externally, then a multi-level concept is pretty much meaningless. It feels nice, but it adds nothing over a flat configuration using a tabstrip UI. In fact, it complicates things, by requiring you to consider inheritance and other such matters in a BOM that isn't even needed.
If the question really refers to sub-items in the sales order (sometimes this is confused with multi-level configurable results), the sub-item configuration should copy over cleanly provided the sub-item's requirement class and schedule line are set up properly.

Thanks for your encouraging reply.
We are intrested in Intercompany transaction only. After sales order in plant say PLT1.
The material master of configurable material will have special procurement key and it will be manufactured in say plant PLT2. Because of this it will trigger Purchase requisition and this requisition must have all the level of configuration copied from sales order. This PR will be converted to PO.
Now I would like to request you to guide me further.
