Question:
Hello ,
I am in the process of upgrading the memory of our server , current configuration is
Windows-NT 4.0, 1.5g Memory, 46c ( 46d kernel), SQL-SERVER 7.0
Sap perameters PHYS_MEMORY 1050, DIALOG PROCESS =8
Now we have added 2G memory ( total 3.5) but at the same time I tried it with following SAP parameters but it doesn't start. ( only yellow light)
PHYS_MEMORY = 2450, DIALOG PROCESS = 15
Any suggestion from you guys.

Answer:
Did you perform a "sappfpar check" after changing the profiles?
Answer:
Thanks for your reply !!!
What does that command do? check the parameters and show if there is any error.
Answer:
sappfpar pf=instance profile; check ; checks certain (memory) parameters against the physical boundaries of the machine.
Answer:
I thought I answered this one yesterday.. .perhaps on another website?
anyways,
PHYS_MEMSIZE cannot be set over 2GB winNT. set it to a maximum of 2000.

Thanks for your reply guys !!!
I will try it out on this week-end.
Answer:
Please find the following report from SAPPFPAR command
Current parameters
PHY_MEMSIZE = 2450 , dialog process 15, bgd,upd1,upd2 = 4
Is there any suggestion from you guys?

Thanks Snowy.
I will try it this week-end and let you know the result. Please correct me if I am wrong, I have to make PHYS_MEMSIZE to <=2000 and keep all other parameters same.

yes, this is what I suggested. if you get more issues, we wil look into other parameters

Answer:
Sorry for the late reply Snowy !!!
Still I am having the problem and I tried the following
As you mentioned I have tried the PHY_MEMSIZE parameter with 2000 but the system does't start bcos of the erro at PXA INIT phase and I tried to reduce it by 200 and still had the same problem, finally it worked with memory size 1250.
Is it bcos of our OS NT4 with service pack 6? or some other parameters.
Any hekp is appreciated.
Answer:
to calculate PHYS_MEMSIZE, reboot your server, start Database only and check how much memory is free and use this value minus 10%.
still using NT 4? I would highly suggest an upgrade to at least Win2000.

Answer:
Hello ,
Finally I can setup the PHYS_MEMORY to 1750 and dia.process to 12. Previous problems are due to my abap/buffersize settings , currently the setting is 240000 and I tried it with 380000 .
Now all the problems are solved except the program swap , everyday I am gettting the program swap of 40,000 how can I reduce it. As i mentioned earlier if I use 380000 the system does't startup.( PXA SHARED MEMORY error)
Answer:
double-click on RED entreis, it wil ltell you which parameters are affected.
