SapLPD cant bind port 515

Question: Hi Gurus,

I got this message in saplpd:
(1:35:09 PM) Number of processors: 2
(1:35:10 PM) Icon DLL loaded.
(1:35:10 PM)
(1:35:11 PM) TRACE: ***LOG Q0I=> NiPBind: bind
(1:35:11 PM) *** ERROR: NiIBind: service 515 in use
(1:35:11 PM) *** ERROR: NiIListen: NiBind (rc=-4)
(1:35:11 PM) Error: Ni2Listen failed with code = -4
(1:35:11 PM) The TCP-port (515) for the SAPLPD is in use!
(1:35:11 PM) There is either another SAPLPD running or
(1:35:11 PM) the previous SAPLPD did not release
(1:35:11 PM) the TCP port.
(1:35:11 PM) Maybe a PC reboot will help
(1:35:11 PM)

I have rebooted the server but it still displayed the same messages. I cant seem to print out anything from r/3, and sp01 shows errors message:

Answer:
Port 515 is occupied..... Try to execute this: saplpd.exe -r 516
saplpd should print via port 516 now.

Mark

Currently my printer is defined as "Toshibae-Studio16PL". Should I reconfigure it to be an IP?
Any suggestions?
thanks.

Answer:
Hi Mark,
I also noted that as soon as I send out command saplpd -r 516 it displays the SAPlpd daemon which shows that everything is ok:
(5:19:04 PM) Number of processors: 2
(5:19:04 PM) Icon DLL loaded.
(5:19:04 PM)
(5:19:04 PM) Network Communication via SAP-NiLib
(5:19:04 PM) Hostname: bfsap1
(5:19:04 PM) IP Address: 192.168.0.149
(5:19:04 PM)
(5:19:04 PM) SAPLPD Version 6.28 for Windows/NT (OPT) is listening
(5:19:04 PM) OS-Info: version = 5.0, build = 0/2195, text = Service Pack 4
(5:19:04 PM) Copyright © 1992-2001 SAP AG
(5:19:04 PM)

However as soon as I run the saplpd daemon again from the start menu, it reverts to the message:
(5:21:59 PM) Number of processors: 2
(5:21:59 PM) Icon DLL loaded.
(5:21:59 PM)
(5:21:59 PM) Error: Ni2Listen failed with code = -4
(5:21:59 PM) The TCP-port (515) for the SAPLPD is in use!
(5:21:59 PM) There is either another SAPLPD running or
(5:21:59 PM) the previous SAPLPD did not release
(5:21:59 PM) the TCP port.
(5:21:59 PM) Maybe a PC reboot will help
(5:21:59 PM)

So I dont think the "saplpd -r 516" is working.

any suggestions?
thanks

Answer:
Hi Gurus,

So far I have tried the following:
-Uninstall SAPGUI and reinstall
-reset print port 515 to 516
-change services file spooler setting from 515 to 516

the system i am using:
IDEs 4.7
WIN2KSvr
MSSql

Os level prints out to printer, so the printer is ok.
Printer type is a networked printer Toshiba. I hv the correct printer drivers confirmed, installed and tested. Working fine.

Lan is working fine, tried to make firewall changes, but that had little effect.

my main concern is that SAPlpd is complaining. port 515 is being used. is there a way to check what other device is using this port? OS command perhaps?

Thanks for all help guys...

Answer:
check NT service for "simple TCP/IP printing" (or a similar named service)

Answer:
Hi Snowy,

Checked the simple TCPIP service, its started. Set to automatic.
There is a another TCPIP Print Server - this is also started (automatic)

I did a ping, the network is fine.
Mailer daemon is still complaining tho.

Answer:

Hi Snowy,
I managed to Id 2 services, one simple TCP/IP printing (which i disabled) and the other TCP/IP Print Server, which I set to start manually.

Now SAP Printer Daemon is happy (no complaints).
Output from spool reaches the printer with green completed message.
However I have to wait on average 153 seconds. This is on the SAP spool side, not on the windows side...

Any ideas?
