Is there a method of doing a client copy minus selected tables. Our client copies are getting very lengthy due to a few large tables that I really do not need in the target client.

It s a case i just face this yesterday. After doing a large import, we receive that some tables were not relevant for the client copy T-T and many retry due to rollback problems and space problems. Anyway, i think the better to find a solution is to start with OSS notes.
Very useful if you know the right keywords.
see the note 552711 which is a FAQ for client copy. One of the question is the solution to your problem i think.
I did not try this solution so maybe it s not the appropriate solution.

If you donīt want to copy some tables you can run report RSCCEXPT for exception list.
Very important: Check sap note 70290

if these tables are application then, u can do a system copy. afterwhich, u can delete those huge sap tables which u dont want.
