Central transport directory - Unix

Question: Hi,

We Have the 2 domain system PRD and DEV. Now We want to make DEV as a transport domain. We have /usr/sap/trans mounted on PRD, so we want to unmount the same and mount /usr/sap/trans of DEV on PRD system. We can't take PRD downtime... so is it possible to unmount existing /usr/sap/trans on PRD and mount it as different mount point and mount /usr/sap/trans of DEV as /usr/sap/trans on PRD.

Is it effects anything on running SAP on PRD..?? is it mandatory to shutdown the SAP and unmount /usr/sap/trans on PRD??

Answer:
Hi,
there is istance parameter DIR_TRANS (see rz10 ) that you must set.
every change need restart of SAP.

Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for the reply......

Ya I know we need to restart, if any change in the parameter. Here the parameter TRANS_DIR is already set to /usr/sap/trans. My question is, if we unmount existinng /usr/sap/trans directory and mount /usr/sap/trans directory from DEV as /usr/sap/trans... is this activity can we do while SAP running on PRD......?? or Is it makes any problem... if we unmount trans directory while SAP is running???

Pls reply me...

Thanks & regards
SriRam

Answer:
Hi,
if DIR_TRANS and TRANS_DIR are set differently, You generated copies of data and cofiles every time you release a change request.

Mauro

Answer:
sorry is the TRANS_DIR only...but our question is we can do it or not while PRD is running?

SriRam

Answer:
shouldnt be a problem if there are no transports at that time
