Question:
We use omniback to backup our SAP systems. Everything has been setup dan all backup have been scheduled. Overall it works great, except sometime the omnibak can not recognise the tape type (medium type: unknown or blank). To fix this, someone has to scan the tape (not only the barcode scan) manually. And it back to works as normal.
Anyone has an idea to prevent this situation happen ? Or how do we fix it automatically when this happens?

Answer:
If You are using the Used Tapes : Check when that was formatted and what type of protection you selected for the tape.
If it is Permanent - You Don't get this Problem.
If it is Days/Weeks & if you are trying to use the same tape after protection time expiral - it behaves as explained then you have to Scan as well as you have to format it also.
I Beleive you Know When You Scan Each Slot You Get 3 Symbols
? --> New Tape/ Unformatted tape/ Tape with Unrecognized File Syste
Green Slot - Good One / Used One
Grey Slot - Undetectble File Sys/ Concenrned Media Label is Not There.
Finally - I Feel, If it Works it is Best
If it troubles it is Worst - We are getting problem Monthly Once atleast
