Central System Monitoring - RZ20

Question: Hello all,

I´m thinking about configuring the central monitoring in my system landscape but I have a lot of doubts. Is it necessary to have solution manager installed to configure it? or could I choose one of my existing instance to be this central monitoring? Could it be a production machine?
For example if my landscape is SAP R/3 4.6C (DEV, QAS, PRD) , BW 6.20 (DEV, PRD) e CRM 6.10 (DEV, PRD). Which of these machines it could be the central monitoring. Which is better?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Karen

Answer:
CCMS running on a system called as monitoring system. We even can use CCMS on a monitoring system (say on your DEV system) to monitor non-SAP system (say to monitor a server where a legacy system running).

Then, Solution Manager is a central system. BAsically getting information periodically from monitoring systems.

Using the example above, if the monitoring system is down (DEV is down) but the legacy system is still up and runing, Solution Manager can not get the information directly from the legacy system.
