in some of the case even if we dont use variant , prog is executed coz its taking all the input from selection screen using select option, but if we use parameter and running the prog with out variants, its giving error...
one more thing , in one of my test alv program , i dont need any input in selection screen and as a result i dont need any variant..but while running its giving error ..

I wonder if he's confusing layout with variant?
As far as I'm aware, it doesn't make any difference how the parameters are filled in, just whether or not they are.
Don't see why it's happening, unless he's coded something wierd based on SY-SLSET in which case the solution is clear ...
