Seriously, I've looked again and I'm surprised it ever worked. You seem to be varying WAGETYPES and one the components it contains in the same loop. Is this standard SAP or a custom development?

It is a Z prog. It activates ok in the non-unicode system. Its been amended various times since 1996 (lastly in 2004) so I guess they must be happy with it.
Answer:
In a pre-unicode system it could work if the fields order in wagetypes is the same as in group fields of P0008. If it worked somehow I think it is a bug not a feature.
