Question:
Can anyone please let me know how the unit of conversion factor takes place between MARA and MARM table..
how both the tables MARA and MARM are related with each other..
i urgently need this solution
thanks in advance,
an abaper
Answer:
Hi,
You can link MARA and MARM using MATNR (Material Number).
For unit of measure, SAP keeps the default unit of measure for the material in MARA-MEINS. However, SAP lets us store another unit of measure and its conversion in table MARM.
Let's say the default UoM is G (Gram), and the additional UoM is KG (Kilogram) and the conversion factor = 1 Kg = 1,000 G, so the equation will be as follow:
MARM-UMREN (MARM-MEINH) = MARM-UMREZ (MARA-MEINS).
Hope this helps!

When your friend is in trouble, don't annoy him by asking if there is anything you can do. Think up something appropriate and do it.
Answer:
While someone has given you an explanation - more or less the same as the F1 help would have given - for your 'urgent' problem (presumably you needed to work out if a laden aircraft that was running out of fuel could safely land on a short runway) it would have been almost as quick to find or create a material with alternate units, read the help and/or put a few orders in and see what happens. And you'd have probably learned more.

Answer:
MARM table has entries for all the Unit of measures mentained for that material. There are two fields UMREZ and UMREN in this table.
To convert alternative UOM to Base UOM
1 alt UOM = ( UMREZ / UMREN ) * Base UOM.
MARA and MARM are linked by MATNR(Material Number)
