Hi, I am trying to create a BDC recording to enable the deletion of a particular characteristic value for many materials. I can see how to do this in transaction MM02, however when I record this transaction the characteristic maintenance screen will only allow me to create new values, there is no way to amend or delete existing assignments. Has anyone had experience of deletion of existing characteristic assignments and how did they approach this.

You did not say what release you are running, but there is a classification mass maintenance transaction (CLMM) that should be able to perform this function. (Available from 4.5 or 4.6)
When a situation arises, the first reaction is to start writing code, but often a more standard solution exists.

However, we have to delete this characteristic assignment for 4000 out of 30,000 materials, therefore we need to supply an input list of the required materials, I don't imagine the mass maintenance would help us here. We are running on 4.6C at the moment.
