Question:
We are currently running 2.1C, and are using the BEX Browser as a Windows client as well as a WEB enabled page (through our ITS).
We are now running a 3.0B test system using WAS. But, according to the documentation in the IMG, it is not SAP's attention to WEB enable the BEX Browser through WAS.
Now, if I still want to give my users access to their WEB reports through their SAP Roles (autorisation) - what is the best way?
I have made a WEB template including the "Role Item" from WEB Application Designer.
But to be honest - using it "out of the box" it looks like sh... I need a good HTML programmer to make something that can compeat with the original WEB enabled BEX Browser.
Did I misunderstand something?
If not - anyone found a good and simple replacement/solution?
Or is SAP providing a solution I just didn't figure out?
Any comments/suggestions highly appriciated!
/Jakob
Answer:
Hi Jacob,
I see you posted this on Feb 09.
You have described my situation exactly. They've taken away the BEx Browser - but what has it been replaced with?
Did you make any progress with discovering how to architect the equivalent user interface?
I have hunted high and low for a white paper or how-to. I've contacted the SAP trainer who did my TU3BW course and he said "look in service.sap.com" - didn't find anthing except web item properties and HTML hints.
I'm also forming the impression that I need to become an HTML developer.
Is the whole thing based on creating a base HTML template with a role menu web item, suitably enhanced with corporate branding graphics etc. and giving that URL to the users?
The vast majority of my users are external users outside our firewall.

Answer:
The BEx Web Browser does still work in 3.0b, we are successfully using it here. However it will not be developed further as SAP encourage you to use the Role Menu web item instead. I agree this looks rubbish at the moment but that is the direction they are developing in so it should get better.
If you do want to use the BEx Web Browser in 3.0b you will need an ITS server, which 3.0b does not normally need - see OSS note 318352 on how to set it up.
