Result of Formula Wrong

Question: I have a formula calculating profit margin % based off of one key figure (revenue) and a formula (total cost). The individual rows have the correct margin. But for the results row the margin % is incorrect.

Example:

Notification Revenue Total Cst. Margin %
400836343 $ 3,660 $ 1,685 54 %
400836934 $ 1,325 $ 1,124 15 %
400835480 $ 4,151 $ 1,503 64 %
400838053 $ 3,310 $ 1,518 54 %
400837727 $ 3,680 $ 1,246 66 %
400831668 $ 1,673 $ 5,624 236 %
400837260 $ 1,315 $ 199 85 %
Result $ 19,114 $ 12,899 88 %

The 88% margin result should actualy be 32.5% based on the formula for Margin % of (revenue - total cost)/revenue.

I have tried all of the different variations of calculate results and using the different formula options, none of them work. I also haven't been able to find anything by searching on here that is related. Thanks for the help in advance.

Answer:
Hi,

did you try to change the properties of your calculated key figure? There is an option with After or Before aggregation.
Sometimes it worked for me.
Beware if the key figure is a local calculated or global calculated, as the options in the properties are not the same.

Answer:
Strange behavior, indeed.
Where is your margin calculated ? In the "Columns" of your query ?

Answer:
Have you tried using rsrt to see what exactly it is using to get the 88%? Run the query in list view and right click on the result (88%) and select either Key figure definition and/or key figure detail. This will show you exactly how BW is calculating the result.

Hope this helps,

Answer:
jlaruss, could you explain what you mean by using rsrt and running the query in list view?

Answer:
go to transaction rsrt. select your query and for the query display, select list. From there run the query and for the formula result, check the key figure definition or detail.

Thanks,
jlaruss
