The Upgrade document mentions to "Activate All transfer Rules and Update Rule ".
1. Is it truly necessary to do so before upgrade?
2. How do you identify inactive update rule. ( RSRV test does not have this option)

yes u have to activate the update rules and transfer rules to know if thew are activated go to metadata repository and check the graphical rep of thecube if u keep ur pointer on the respective places it will let u know the status

Hi,
According to the checklist given by SAP for 3.5 upgrade, it is necessary to check inactive Update and Transfer rules and we have to activate or delete using program RSUPGRCHECK. See OSS note 449160.
