Question:
Hi, all:
I am new to BW and new to this part of the forum.
I have been told we do not have BW installed though Coparate has it installed. But it is odd today that in sap marketplace I found that we have an installation number for BW listed. The number is consecutive to the installation number of our R/3 system. Does this mean BW is installed? What is a quick way to test whether BW is installed or not? Thanks.
Answer:
Hello Sap-basis.
I must say this is an odd question...
I believe first thing you need to understand is that BW is a physical separate installation from R3, not part of an R3 installation. Thus, if you don't have the server details to locate your BW server, I wonder if you can test if it is installed or not.
Now, is the installation of BW comes generally along with the installation of a plug-in on the R3 system, what you can do is to test if this plug-in is installed or not. You can do it via the 'basis' way by looking at SPAM and see if there is a component PI_BASIS, or try the 'functional' way by trying if transaction SBIW is responding in your system.
If not, BW is definitely not connected to your R3 system, so probably not installed (probably, because BW can exist without any connection to R3 if not gathering info from R3)
If this is installed, it does not yet mean that this communication conduit is actually discussing with an installed BW machine, to check this I would then suggest to try to use transaction RSA7 to see wether you have entries there. If yes, then you have a BW system.
Oh, by the way, I just though about a faster way : in SM59 you should have BW as a peer.
'hope this helps, sure some more basis guys would have other ideas.
