Answer:
in BW, RSA1, go to the Business Content section (left hand panel), sixth choice.
choose the first line (infoprovider by infoarea in version3, other description in version2)
click on the very first line, then the binocular to search for 0SD
There you will find about 10 cubes and 4 ods, with the technical names go in the documentation about business content (can be found at service.sap.com/bw), print the definition pages of the cubes and ods that you found in the business content. Go to your functional team and ask them "based on this very quick documentation, what do you think I should install ?", because depending on what is used in SD in the source system, not everything needs to be installed
come back to your findings in BW, choose one cube, and tranfer it on the right part of the screen, push button "grouping" and choose option in dataflow before, the system will collect all necessary objects to feed the cube/ods with data (infosources, update rules, etc etc)
then click install -> simulate installation
this simulation will fail because an infosource cannot be activated because a datasource has not been maintained;
pick up the name of this datasource and go in the source system, transaction SBIW to first install the business content for this datasource,
do the replication in BW
go back to the business content part of the tool and retry to simulate installation
trouble shoot the installation process, as it is not always very smooth as a process
when everything will be activated, you still need to load the cube/ods with data : remember you are dealing with LO meaning you will have to do a so-called initialization setup before being able to extract any data from the source system
when the cube/ods is filled with data, go back again in the business content section, and do the same process to activate the queries, choosing grouping option "in data flow afterwards"
there you are !
Depending on your experience in BW, you will have to come back with more detailed questions, of course, but let's say that the explanation has to start somewhere, as your question is rather wide.

PS : if you use LIS in the source system and need to extract data from there, the process is slightly different. You should avoid to have to use LIS, as it is the old fashioned way of extracting things.
