Key Figure data type

Question: Hi,

How will I change the Key Figure's Data Type, Length, and Decimals?
By default:
Data type - DEC
Length - 17
Decimals - 3

I appreciate your advice.

Answer:
You can't change a KF when it is already in a fact table. And you can't control the length.

When you create a new KF, you can either choose DEC or FLTP and select additional properties from the tab of the same name.

You could probably try the length by using the display option in the additional properties tab. (1, 100, 1000 and so on).

Answer:
SR,

Thank you so much for the information. FYI, the KF is not stored in the Fact Table, even though I could n't change the Decimal place.

Eg: Go to Data Element in the key figure definition (Rsa14) --> click /BIC/0IZTEST_DT

Here it is not changed the length. Still shows the same Default values:
Data type - DEC
Length - 17
Decimals - 3

Please advice

Answer:
I presume this is because you are trying to change something that is in SAP namespace (starts with a '0' ). I see that I can change custom objects (Zxxxx).

Why not create a new KF object, instead of trying to change standard delivered objects (you will have problems with upgrades/hotpacks).

Answer:
You can change the definition of a key figure even if present in a fact table;
to do that you need to change manually (via SE16) the table RSDKYF, then deactivate the infoobject via RSA1, and reactivate it ;
the system will then prompt you to do a conversion the the tables using that modified infoobject.
This is a rather long work that could have side effects, I would rather try to avoid to do it.
There is two oss notes explaining this process clearly (don't have their number at the hand)
