Edit PSA - clear column values

Question: Hi,

I know the "change all" capability when editing PSA, but what if I need to clear all values in one column for all the rows? Just entering Space does not update the column fields.

Please, can anybody help me?

Best regards,
Madicken

Answer:
can you possibly replace the value with a "#" sign...just an idea

Answer:
I tried that, but it differs from space in the ODS.

Answer:
are you trying to this indefinetely or just for this set of data? what about possibly doing it in the transfer rules where you in routine might set "result = ' '" blank?

Answer:
Hi Madicken,
I had encountered a similar problem earlier and have found that it is not possible to delete the values of the records (individually or all of them) in the PSA unless you substitute them with some other information. Remember that editing of data is possible in the PSA only if the request has not already gone into the data target. I might be wrong and there could be a workaround to this that I do not know of. Hope some guru enlightens us.
Cheers,
Sean.

Answer:
Good to hear that more people have encountered the same problem...

I just need to edit this set of data, so changing update- or transfer rules will give me quite a lot of additional work..

More ideas?

Answer:
Madicken,
If you do not want to make changes to the data in the PSA using transfer/update rules before sending them to the data targets, then do something about your extractors. What is your scenario?? Why is it that you want to delete that data? If you do not need that data, try changing it at the extraction level. Although, I had a similar problem, it was only a warning given out by the PSA as it did not find attribute values for a certain infoobject (and the damn thing was not even being used by the cube that I was working on)--was just something that the extractor was sending into the PSA. Try discussing it with your business/functional folks if you actually need that data. Good luck.

Answer:
Sean,

My scenario is rather complex. I am trying to recreate a loading (first time loaded in the previous version of the solution) after having put a new version of the solution in production. This is a loading between two ODSs, and one field from the level 1 ODS is now mapped against a field in ODS2, and those did not appear to be mapped in the previous version of the solution. By clearing the value of the field for all records in the PSA, I will get the same result as I had before.

This is a one-time-job, and for the rest of the daily loads, I will use the the new version of the solution.

Answer:
Madicken,
If I understand you correctly, you are getting some data into one ODS and using that as a datasource for the other one. This being the case, and considering that you only want to suppress the information from one field, how about making a minor modification to the update rules as setting the rule to be 'no update'. Hope this helps.

Sean.
