Coudl anybody throw some light on what is the significance of KEY Feilds. Cant' we have simply Chars and Key Figures like in the InfoCube?
Why do we have to regroup the chars and keyfigures nto Key Feilds and Data Feilds? Also, do we have make very very sure that the feilds under the Key Feilds together form an unique record and then only go for ODs design..

I am also quite not sure. But, I will try. ODS is a flat table structure like RDBMS tables, where as InfoCube is a Multi Dimensional Model.
The ODS is meant for detailed reporting and also for data staging.
Consider a situation where you want to do delta load of the transaction data. Unleass you identify a key feild combination that will uniquely define the transaction data, it is difficult to differentiate between the old data and the new data.
Also, ODS has a change log. So, let's say if there are any changes to the existing transaction data, we expect those to be reflected when we do the delta load. So, how does the BW system know that it is the same record that is existing in the ODS, with the new key figure / new data feilds info. So, doing some homework on what feilds should constitute the key feilds is very important for the integrity of the data in the Data Targets.
Also, ODS has 0Recordmode, which will help us to mark the transaction data records for various update modes like deletion, updation and addition...
From here onwards I request CHC, SR, El to take furthur and suggest any coorections in what I have said.
