Combine 3 ODS Objects into 1

Question: Hi,

I am thinking of bringing 3 ODS objects (Sales Orders, Deliveries and Billings) data into 1 ODS. Has anyone done this before? If yes, would you be able to let me know the best way of doing it with respect to Update rules, etc.?

Also, has anyone tried bringing multiple ODS objects data into a single cube. We tried this, but the data did not look quite correct. Any ideas?

Thanks for the help.

Naveen,
your question is really to open for us to answer it.

The basic answer would be "yes it is possible, I already did it", but how do you think we can help you if you don't give us any detail or speak about a specific issue you had ?!

Answer:
Hi CHC,

I was looking for the best way to do it.

a. 3 ODS --> 1 ODS --> Cube; OR
b. 3 ODS --> Cube; OR
c. Any other way of doing this.

Which approach did you take and was it Sales Orders, Deliveries and Billings?

Thanks.

Answer:
Hi Naveen,

The main reason to accumulate data in an ODS is bring information from different extractors/ODS/tables and accumulate them against the same key. Usually this is a document number such as order or invoice number. If your 3 ODS have different keys, then it is not going to accumulate.

If you were to load from your 3 ODS into a cube, you would need to have the characteristics required for the cube in each ODS, otherwise the data will not combine.

Option 3 would be to use a multiprovider to combine your 3 ODS or combine 3 cubes fed from your ODS.

In summary the choice of data object is based on the requirement and ability to combine data for reporting.
