Can a characteristic be a key figure at the same time?

Question: May somebody help me?
I defined ZAGE (a copy of "Age in Years" standard characteristic) like a characteristic because I needed an age-hierarchy and a filter by age in query. Now, I need calculate age on average, too. My question is: Can a characteristic be a key figure at the same time?

Thanks a lot.

Answer:
If you want to use characteristic value as a KF, just create a formula variable, replacement path, on the key of the characteristic.
But you can't define an infoobject to be twice char and KF. I even don't see the need (except if you want to ensure that char and KF are exactly of thz same format, ... but some informations are really different between a char and a kf !

Hi all,

Another alternative you have is to create both a carachteristic and a key figure and populate them both with the same value through Update Rule.

This way you will have in the InfoCube (or in the ODS) both a Characteristic and a key figure containing the same value. This could be used - as you suggests - to build a hierarchy but also - as in my experience - to filter the transactional records contained in the cube according to the value of the figure.

Hope this helps,
