Question:
I am trying to restrict a characteristic in BEx Report. But the characteristics values which I require to restrict the charactreristic is not available in the cube but is available in the master data table for that particular characteristic.
Is there any way I can restrict a characteristic by a fixed value which is NOT in the cube but is present in the master data table?
Any help with this problem will be appreciated..
Answer:
If you search a little bit into the popup for restriction, you will find the possibility to choose values from master data tables ...

thanks.
I did tried doing that in the pop up but was unable to do that. I am not sure if it is even possible retricting a characteristics with values other than the ones in the cube.

Answer:
Ok, you do not search at all ...
When you get the window for restricting, just click the yellow arrow at the bottom.
Then you'll get another window, where you can specify how many entries you see (100 probably) and if it comes only from the infoprovider.
Manage your needs there...
You can also modify your characteristic into RSA1, in tabstrip Bex Explorer ... there are many options there about values that should be used when reporting on it

Answer:
Hey,
Thanks again.
I did explore that..but the window displaying the option for the Number of displayed values is disabled. It is enabled if I go a level further and I am able to see all the master data values but it does not allow me to make a selection.
Answer:
Enter the characteristic value in the text box bottom left of the selection box, and press the => arrow (without selecting any value)
The value entered will be considered as a selection criteria.
Next time, enter the version in which you're working, .... since some new options are available in 3.0/3.1 which are not in for 2.0/2.1 ...
