Bookmark with Hierarchy ( Question and part answer )

Question: Hello,

I found out some ( for me new ) facts about bookmarks and I do have some questions as well:

A report contains a hierarchy which is set to be open on level 4 per default .

When changing the hierachy node level ( higher or lower ) and bookmarking the report - the bookmark does not show the previously selected level but jumps back into the default level 4.

The system delivers as well the following message:

"No data was found that meets the used conditions "
However - the reports shows plenty of data in all levels and I am not entirely sure whether this has to do with the problem

I then deselected all columns apart from one and the bookmarking did work. However if I do select more than 1 column it fails.

I wondered how this is possible.

I then deleted existing bookmarks of various users in the Reporting agent
and the bookmark did work now.

However, I then bookmarked the identical selections again and the bookmark did fail to work.

Apparently bookmarks with identical selections do cause failure.

Questions:

1.) Does anybody know whether bookmarks must not be saved with identical selections?

2.) Can bookmarks be maintained other than in the reporting agent?

3.) Is there a possibility to allow endusers to maintain ( delete ) their own bookmarks?

4.) Does an increasing number of bookmarks have an impact on the WAS?

5.) What exactly are bookmarks with comand sequence ?

OSS Note 732924 deals with a similar issue

Symptom
When you save a bookmark for a BW Web application, the variable display hierarchy is reset to the variable value.

Reason and Prerequisites
In general, the input variable has priority over the current hierarchy
setting. If the hierarchy setting in the executed query is changed in
the characteristic properties, then this setting is reset when you save
the bookmark.
If you change this behavior, then you can no longer change the hierarchy
in the variable screen.

Solution
If possible, only change the hierarchy in the variable screen.

Thank you

Kind regards

Christian

Answer:
1.) Does anybody know whether bookmarks must not be saved with identical selections?
A: Nope, each bookmark is defined w/ its own GUID so its unique, they won't conflict.

2.) Can bookmarks be maintained other than in the reporting agent?
A: Nope, I think this is being remidied in either 3.5 or 4.0.

3.) Is there a possibility to allow endusers to maintain ( delete ) their own bookmarks?
A: Nope, I think this is being remidied in either 3.5 or 4.0.

4.) Does an increasing number of bookmarks have an impact on the WAS?
A: I dont' think so, as BW only ever looks at bookmarks when you are specifically calling one.

5.) What exactly are bookmarks with comand sequence ?
A: search the forum and/or help.sap.com.
