Work Item error

Question: I have a task which is routed to the correct agent but when the agent clicks on execute button in his inbox it gives an error that 'User XXX cannot reserve the work item'.Has anybody got any idea why is this error coming as I have also assigned the agent directly to the task ,still it does not work.

Try refreshing the buffers:
In the inbox: Settings -> Workflow Settings -> Refresh Org Environment

If above does not work then check agent's authorizations.
